Now that the base colour is ready it's time to start shading. For the moment it's not necessary to be particularly precise with the colours, so I choose a darker swamp green and a very light yellow. I will be using "X" as a shortcut key to alternate between these two. I also decrease the opacity of my brush to 20-25 %.
I block in the overall shadows and highlights. Basically, the end result should be something like what you'll see if you squint your eyes while looking at an object. A blurry shape of lights and darks. As I work on the sketch I'll be changing my darks and lights to progressively darker and lighter of the their respective shades. Don't go too dark though, as you'll need the darker shades much later in the process to define the details. Try to avoid using the "Undo". You can achieve better results drawing over the mistake.
